Alpharo is a watch brand born from a fascination with challenging the expected.
Rooted in horological tradition but unafraid to question the rules, Alpharo exists to explore alternative paths in watch design, to challenge assumptions that are often accepted without question. Inspired by the boldness of scientific breakthroughs and the elegance of geometric design, Alpharo embraces the tension between convention and creativity.
The design philosophy draws from the world of non-Euclidean geometry – a field that challenged millennia-old conventions, and while initially dismissed, became essential to understanding the curvature of space-time itself. We see a parallel in watchmaking: certain design norms are taken for granted, but when challenged thoughtfully, they can lead to new beauty and function. This philosophy takes tangible form in our first model, the Alpharo Model 1.
Alexander Ryan
I am the founder of Alpharo, a mechanical engineer with a lifelong fascination for how things move, fit, and work. It all started as a child, mesmerized by the rouleaux bracelet on my father’s Breitling and enchanted by the gift of a sunburst blue-dial watch one Christmas. As a teenager, unorthodox time displays, like binary LED watches and my Stark O-Ring watch, captured my attention.
In 2015, at 18, I discovered the Rolex Milgauss with its iconic lightning bolt hand. It was the spark: a realization that watch design could be playful, sculptural, and still functional. I thought, "Why are watch hands straight?" This led to a sketch – a concept where curved hands spiraled around a dial that twisted inward, a radical departure from traditional horology.
During my engineering studies, I tried building it, using 3D printers and laser cutters. But achieving a high-quality product proved too complex for a student with limited resources. Even so, the concept never left me. My father, ever encouraging, always said, “I’ll be your first customer.”
In 2023, with experience in precision engineering, I finally returned to the idea. Now, with the skills and resources to bring it to life, I collaborated with global suppliers and iterated the design obsessively. In 2025, I held the first Alpharo Model 1 prototype in my hands – the product of a decade-long dream, made real.
